There wasn’t a restaurant on every corner and people didn’t eat out much. Most food at the grocery store came from the USA. Out of season produce, if available at all, was super expensive. The only discount store was the 5 and dime aka ‘the dime store’ It did not sell food (except 1 penny candies).
